Kids' Lit Quiz 2009

The Newman Rooms in Oxford was the venue for the Oxfordshire/Berkshire heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz on the afternoon of Monday 23rd November. It was an exciting and closely fought contest and our warmest congratulations to both our year 7 and our year 8 students for their fantastic team performances.

The year 8 team - Tacita McCoy-Parkhill, Emily Pritchard, Ella Rechter, and Ruth Warner took 3rd place out of 34 teams and the year 7 team – Esme Carter, Estelle Greenwood, EllieJanes, and Ella Wilson, were close behind in 5th place. Our reserves Becky Hodges and Roisin Hanrahan attended the event and gave enthusiastic support to the teams.

Author Cathy Cassidy visits Oxford High School Library.

On a very hot June afternoon, girls from Wood Green school in Witney joined Year 6 and 7 girls for an enjoyable talk by popular children's writer Cathy Cassidy. Cathy talked about her books and answered lots of interesting questions from her enthusiastic audience. Girls signed her friendship chart and Cathy signed copies of her books!

Local author MG Harris visits Y7s - February 2009

We were delighted to welcome local author MG Harris to the school library on Friday 27th February, to talk to Y7 about her exciting books "Invisible City" and "Ice Shock". MG illustrated her talk with a film on the Brazilian martial art Capoeira - amazing! - and descriptions of Mexican locations and Maya legends (we hope they got their calendar wrong!). We finished off with a very busy book-signing session.

Author Dianne Hofmeyr talks to Year 7

We were delighted to welcome the award-winning author Dianne Hofmeyr, who came to talk to Year 7 in the library, about her latest novel, Eye of the Moon, a gripping tale set in Ancient Egypt in the eighteenth dynasty.

We all enjoyed her presentation, filled with fascinating historical detail and illustrated by pictures, jewellery and other artefacts. This was followed by a lively question and answer session after which Dianne signed copies of her book.
