What is Junior FOxHS?
FOxHS (Friends of Oxford High School) is a fundraising and social committee run by parents and members of staff at both the Junior and Senior Schools. Junior FOxHS is a sub-committee of FOxHS and is made up of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, year group representatives and the Head of The Junior School, Mrs Stacey. We meet once a term with Mrs Stacey to plan fundraising events for the children and their families.
Where does the money go?
All the money we raise throughout the year goes to the Junior School’s Annual Fund to help purchase items from the Wish List for the girls. Last year we contributed £11,500 to the Annual Fund and helped with: creating the Orange Café for Woodstock Road, where the girls now eat their lunch and parents can also pop in for coffee; enhancing the Woodstock Road playground; extra PE equipment including trophies and netball posts; extra outside play equipment including giant chess/ connect 4/ dominoes, sand and water activities, bricks, hoops, skipping and jumping ropes, pipes, bins … this list is endless; digital cameras; mobile classroom organiser; stage lighting for Bardwell Rd; coach to take choir to Birmingham; author and illustrator talks – Mini Grey, Korky Paul, John Harris, plus many smaller items too numerous to list here. So everywhere you look you will see tangible proof of Junior FOxHS’ fundraising efforts!
How Can You Help?
We always welcome volunteers to help at the events, whether it’s serving mulled wine/ Pimms/ hot chocolate etc to selling second hand books at our fantastic Book Bonanza or running a gardening stall at the summer fete. Committee roles also become vacant in September. If you would like to know more, can offer your help in any way or have new fundraising ideas, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Daryl Back (Chair) email@example.com
What’s Coming Up?
FIREWORKS! Tuesday 5th November 18.45 at the Senior School. Skyline Fireworks are back with their spectacular display. Join us for mulled wine/ hot chocolate and soup whilst enjoying the best fireworks in Oxford! This is a whole school event and we sell around 900 tickets.
CALENDARS. This in an annual fundraiser for the Junior School and as it is full of photographs of the girls it has great appeal.
CHRISTMAS CARDS. These cards are designed by the girls and professionally printed and are great for parents and their relatives.
NORTHBROOK GIFT WRAP. The Christmas and birthday wrapping paper from this company is always of excellent quality, with packs of inexpensive cards, tags, ribbon etc. This is an annual fund-raiser, requiring relatively little effort from the committee, and yet we retain 25% of all sales.
On Friday 6th December we have our annual CHRISTMAS FAIR. This year the fair will be held at Bardwell Road from 3.30pm – 5.30pm. The whole Junior School will be involved and we would love to see you there.
In the Spring Term we will be organising our ever-popular BOOK BONANZA to coincide with World Book Day. Children bring in up to 10 books they no longer want and can buy ‘new’ books for 50p each. Last year we raised over £750 and helped refresh everyone’s bookshelves into the bargain.
The EASTER EGG HUNT at Woodstock Road. This is a non fund-raising event and the children participate during the school day when they hunt chocolate eggs and chicks!
Hooked on Dancing on Ice? In the summer term we have the JUNIOR FOxHS ON ICE event, when we will once again have exclusive use of the Oxford Ice Rink.
The school year comes to a fun-packed climax with one of our biggest fundraising events, the SUMMER FETE – date to be confirmed in June.
Every term year groups also hold much-anticipated cake sales where parents bake cakes and the girls buy them at break time. These are great fundraisers that are thoroughly enjoyed by all.
FOxHS also runs the second-hand uniform shop. This shop has now been refurbished at Bardwell Road and is run by Beccy Sutherland, a year one parent. Buying second-hand uniform is an excellent way of recycling and our shop is well stocked to suit everyone’s needs.
Finally, year group reps also organise coffee mornings, lunches and evening drinks for the parents throughout the year.
Staying in Touch
We communicate via Junior News, the Junior School newsletter, and event flyers, so check book bags to make sure you’re up to date with all that’s going on!
