FOxHS - Junior
What is Junior FOxHS?
The Junior School branch of Friends of Oxford High School – the parents’ fundraising and social committee – is currently made up of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, second hand Uniform rep and class representatives. We meet once a term with Mrs Scotcher, the Junior School Head, to plan events for the children and their families.
Where does the money go?
All the money we raise throughout the year goes to the Junior School’s Annual Fund to help purchase items from the Wish List for the children. Last year we contributed £13,000 to transforming the Hall at Bardwell Road into a wonderful performance space, with new curtains surrounding the stage and a sound proofed screen between the hall and gym. At the Woodstock Road site the focus was on creating a fantastic new library, which is now complete and much enjoyed. As a result of this and previous years’ fundraising, every classroom in the junior school now has an interactive whiteboard. So everywhere you look you will see tangible proof of Junior FOxHS’ fundraising efforts!
This year we will, once again, give our profit to the Junior School’s Annual Fund. Fundraising in the autumn term has already raised £4800 and this will help to buy items off this year’s wish list: morris dance costumes, art exhibition stands, playground, garden, courtyard enhancements, musical instruments and lots more small items that teachers request – too many to list!
How Can You Help?
We always welcome volunteers to help at the events, and committee roles become vacant in September. If you would like to know more, can offer your help in any way or have new fundraising ideas, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Daryl Back (Chair) E-Mail
What's Coming Up?
On Saturday 30 January we are hosting a private screening of Where The Wild Things Are. We have hired the Ultimate Picture Palace for the afternoon, film starting at 2.0pm, and do hope you can join us there.
On 3 March, we will be organising our popular Book Bonanza to coincide with World Book Day. Children bring in up to 10 books they no longer want and can buy ‘new’ books for 50p each. Last year we raised £475 and helped refresh everyone’s bookshelves into the bargain.
The Easter Egg Hunt at Woodstock Road. This is a non fund-raising event and the children participate during the school day when they hunt chocolate eggs and chicks!
Hooked on Dancing on Ice? Then put Saturday 8 May, in your diary for the Junior FOxHS on Ice event, when we will once again have exclusive use of the Oxford Ice Rink from 4.30pm to 6pm. Tickets sold out really fast last year, so get your skates on to grab yours next term!
The school year comes to a fun-packed climax with one of our biggest fund-raising events, the Summer Fête – date to be confirmed.
Every term year groups hold much-anticipated cake sales, and there are second-hand uniform sales at Bardwell Road after school on the first Wednesday of every month. Buying second-hand uniform is an excellent way of recycling and our shop is well stocked to suit everyone’s needs.
Class reps organise coffee mornings, lunches and evening drinks for their class parents throughout the year.
What’s been and gone!
In the autumn term we sold Northbrook Giftwrap. The Christmas and birthday wrapping paper from this company is always of excellent quality, with packs of inexpensive cards, tags, ribbon etc. This is an annual fund-raiser, requiring relatively little effort from the committee, and yet we retain 25% of all sales. At Woodstock Road we sold Calendars. Again, this in an annual fundraiser and as it is full of photographs of the children it has great appeal. We also sold Christmas cards to parents at both sites. These cards are designed by the children and professionally printed and are great for parents and their relatives. We closed the term with two parties – one for the younger children at Woodstock Road (non fund-raising and for pure enjoyment!) and one of our largest fundraisers at Bardwell Road, the Junior FOxHS Christmas Party, which was held at the senior school. This year this event raised a fantastic £1,900.
