Year 9 Enrichment Day
On June 19th 2009 Year 9 participated in a new venture based on the theme of a ‘Young Apprentice Day'. Divided into teams they had to determine their group identity and aims, to develop an idea for a new product aimed at a particular consumer group, and to devise a launch event.
Summer term History trips
The summer term was a busy one, with three History trips. We had a super day at Windsor Castle with Year 7, who were studying the development of castles in the Middle Ages. The fact that the Queen was in residence provoked much excitement, as did seeing Queen Mary’s beautiful Dolls House...

Young Enterprise South East Finals - June 2009

Superb Concerts in Wonderful Settings
Recently, we have given concerts in three of Oxford's finest venues. Chamber Choir, with pupils from Years 7 - 9, performed music by Hasse, Britten and Verdi in Merton College Chapel.
Young Enterprise Oxfordshire County finals - 2009
Congratulations to eclectic who won the Young Enterprise Oxfordshire County Finals at the Said Business School on Wednesday 20th May. They now progress to the South East Finals on 18th June in Horsham.
Moscow Exchange Easter 2009
Eleven Year 11 girls accompanied by Mrs Earley and Mrs Coulton braved the cold of Moscow during the Easter holidays. The welcome by the host families was very warm and even overwhelming at times.

Careers Fair
The annual joint Oxford High School/Magdalen College School Careers Fair was hosted by MCS on Tuesday 3rd March. Over 90 representatives, many from our parent body and old girl network, covered a wide range of career areas and the advice given was greatly appreciated by pupils from both schools.
Lizzie Jefferys selected for International Biology Olympiad
We are delighted to announce that after a gruelling 4 days of assessed practical work and theoretical exams, Lizzie Jefferys has been selected to represent the UK as one of the team of 4 students taking part in the International Olympiad in Japan this summer.
Italian Exchange 2009
10 Sixth Formers travelled to Torino in Italy during the first week of the Easter Holidays. We were guests of the Liceo Classico-Linguistico "C Botta" in Ivrea.
Women in Surgery Event
On March 5th 2009 we were delighted to welcome back four Old Girls - Natalie Blencowe (surgeon in training) and medical students Katrina Mason, Clare Warrell and Clare Eeley - who came to support an initiative by the Royal College of Surgeons 'Women into Surgery'.
New House Leaders elected
Last year's House Leaders handed over their responsibilities to the new girls who were elected by their fellow Year 12s.
Oxford High School Triumph at Biology Olympiad
7 girls from Year 13 have won Oxford High the Top School award in the annual Biology Olympiad. Over 1,800 6th form students entered the competition, but only 58 won Gold Medals.
Kids' Lit Quiz
As part of their prize for winning the Oxfordshire heat of the Kids' Lit Quiz, Tacita McCoy-Parkhill, Anneka Parker, Ella Rechter and Lucienne Sheard will be VIP attendees at the Oxford Literary Festival on 4th and 5th April.
Oxford City Duke of Edinburgh Award Presentation
On the evening of Monday 16th March, students who had completed one of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award schemes attended the Oxford city award group presentation at the Town Hall.
U12 VII County Champions
Very many congratulations to the U12 'A' & 'B' Netball Teams who competed at the Oxfordshire U12 Netball Tournament held at OHS.
Classical Reading Competition
This March, as in most years, the Classics Department took more than 40 girls to compete in the Oxford Classical Reading Competition, in which students from a variety of Oxfordshire schools recite Latin and Greek to a board of judges from the University.
Year 8 Trip to Corinium - March 2009
This was our second attempt of this trip this term - the first was prevented by the snow - and this time we were very lucky with the weather.

Many congratulations to Al Goudie (13 X) who won the silver medal in the European Karate Championships in Paris, to become the highest ever placed female in her age group.

The lastest extravaganza from the Music Department was the Lower School production of "Ocean World", a moving reminder of the damage that humans are doing to the world's oceans.

The snow might have stopped most of England from working, but fifty girls and twenty-five staff managed to make it in for a day of cross-year group activities, subject specific sessions and bacon sarnies...oh, and the obligatory fun in the snow!

Suter Piano Festival - Wednesday 28th January 2009
The Suter Piano Festival was established last year in memory of Kathleen Suter, who taught piano at Oxford High for many years. She left a legacy for the purpose of mounting an annual festival to celebrate the piano.

Record Oxbridge Offers Made to OHS Students
Our students have had another brilliant year. This year 50% of Year 13 made Oxbridge applications.
Anna Lapwood gains place in the National Children's Orchestra
Anna Lapwood, one of our Year 9 Music Scholars, has recently gained a place in the Main Orchestra of the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain as a harpist for 2009.
Year 12 and 13 Economics and Politics trip to Brussels and Frankfurt Sunday 14th December to Saturday 20th December 2008
This fantastic trip took place after the end of the winter term. The first visit was to the Possman Apple Winery which allowed the students to have an extended tour of the winery and to see how a company managed to gain a niche market.
OHS - MCS Ski Trip, 27th December 2008 - 4th January 2009
15 Oxford High School girls from years 8, 9 and 10 and 26 Magdalen College School boys spent the week after Christmas skiing in Saalbach, Austria.
Major Building Programme for Oxford High
Plans have been unveiled for our ambitious £9 million building programme. Subject to planning permission, we very much hope to begin construction during the summer.

OHS welcomes authority on Rudyard Kipling for Annual Lecture
Our appetites had been whetted by a school assembly on Kipling's work for the War Graves Commission, so we were keen to be reminded of what it was about the writer's background that gave him his great contemporary appeal.
Year 11 Dragons' Den
Year 11 temporarily set aside their GCSEs and instead took part in "Dragons' Den" (well, the OHS version).
English-Speaking Union School's Debating Competition
In November two of our Sixth Form debaters, Sophie Hollows and Vicki Morris won through the first round of the English-Speaking Union School's Debating Competition to the regional round. Sophie and Vicki had to propose the motion: "This House believes that, on balance, globalisation has been bad for the world's poor".
Visit to the Institute for Research in Child Development at Brookes University - November 08
In November around 25 OHS Psychologists were delighted to be able to visit Professor Margaret Harris and the research team at the Institute for Research in Child Development at Brookes University.

The Changeling - November 2008
The Changeling is a challenge for any theatre group. Not daunted, a group of ten actors put on this disturbing Jacobean tragedy on November 10th to an audience of over a hundred parents, teachers and students.
Italian Exchange - Oxford 3-10 November 2008
The first leg of the Italian Exchange took place during the first week of the second half of the Autumn term. 11 students and a teacher from the Liceo Classico and Linguistico "C. Botta" in Ivrea (Turin), Italy, came to OHS and were hosted by 11 students of Italian.
Year 10 visit to British Museum - November 2008
The venue: the British Museum. The mission: to find suitable "props" for a film about Roman life.
Russian Exchange in October 2008
Twelve girls in Year 11 received our Russian guests from Moscow International School for twelve days on our 19th exchange visit.
Visit to South Italy, October 2008
Forty-five girls have just returned from Pompeii, spending seven whole days exploring the area around Napoli.
Year 9 Karaoke
On an October night in 2008, around 150 boys and girls from Oxford High School and Magdalen College School gathered together for the 'YEAR 9 KARAOKE NIGHT'.
Kids' Lit Quiz Regional Heat 2008
Congratulations to our Year Seven Kids Lit Quiz team, which is heading for the UK final in Newcastle after winning the regional heat.
Oxford High continues to be immensely popular, school roll burgeoning...
First day of term saw the highest school roll ever. Major points of entry are for Nursery, Reception and Year 7 but we have been surprised by the largest intake into Year 10 ever.
Music Tour to Greece
In early July, a special orchestra of string players and two oboists went to Greece to perform at the Concert Theatre in Cohilia, on the beautiful island of Evia, and again in the smart municipality of Rafina, outside Athens.
