Young Enterprise National Finals - 16th-18th July 2006

Year 8 Trip to Hadrian's Wall - June 2006
Year 8 was the department’s next enterprise, with the whole year group setting off for Hadrian’s Wall on June 26th for a week’s residential study visit. We had a wonderful week, very busy and full of varied activity.

The Boy Friend - June 2006
For three days in June, the main school hall became ‘Madame Dubonnet’s Finishing School for Young Ladies’ as years 7-9 gave a fantastic performance of ‘The Boy Friend’.

Young Enterprise South East Finals - June 2006
Jinx had a superb day at the South East Young Enterprise finals winning the best company report and the best overall company. They now go forward to the national finals in July in London.

Lower School Concert - 26th May 2006
Our final Lower School Concert of the academic year was held on the 26th May. This concert provided a wonderful opportunity to hear the Lower School music groups; Lower School Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Lower School Choir.

Year 8 Visit to Rushall Organic Farm, Bradfield
After a hard week taking their end of year exams, year 8 greeted the trip to Rushall farm with excitement. The day dawned sunny and hot, and with temperatures expected to reach around 27°C, the girls set off laden with water, sun cream, and sun hats!

Concert for the Woodstock Red Cross Disabled Club - May 2006
On Wednesday the 10th of May, girls from year 7-9 performed for some visitors from the Woodstock Red Cross Disabled Club. Musical numbers ranged from Bach, to folksongs and Bernstein.

On March 17th Mrs Megan Callaway gave a talk to our History Society on the making of historical documentaries for television. Mrs Callaway has worked as a producer on many documentary series for the BBC and American television.

Mandarin at Oxford High School
Oxford High School is the first school in Oxfordshire to make Mandarin a compulsory subject. From September this year all Year 7 students (11 years old) will study the language along with French.

OHS History Society was privileged to welcome a distinguished guest speaker to the school at the beginning of March. Professor Richard Evans (Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge) is the author of ‘In Defence of History’, a most influential book on the uses of History.

Winners at last after seven years of runners up!!!!!!!!
On Tuesday 28th February the U15 XI travelled to Tilsley Park to compete in the GDST Hockey rally. A cold yet sunny day would see OHS competing against some of the top hockey schools in the GDST.

U13 County Netball Tournament - February 2006
On Monday the 27th February Oxford High School A and B U13 netball teams set out enthusiastically on the school mini bus, the sub zero temperatures not yet having dampened the spirits. We arrived eagerly as the defending champions at the U13 County Netball Tournament.

On a perfect sunny winter’s day, 120 alumnae and past members of staff celebrated the 130th birthday of their school. They came from near (Belbroughton Road itself) and far, the United States.

Code-Breakers Win GCHQ Prize (£1,000)
An OHS team finished second in Southampton University's National Cipher Challenge. The competition lasted four months and the girls had to decipher sixteen coded messages.
Orpheus in the Underworld
Congratulations to all who performed in the Senior Production of ‘Orpheus in the Underworld.’ The Drama Department definitely achieved a first; seven gentlemen cast members performed on the OHS stage.

Oxford High School African Drum Group Perform at Fundraising Event
On the 14th of December, 15 girls from Oxford High School set off on a school trip with a difference! They had been asked to perform at the NSPCC’s main annual fundraising event, the City Dinner.

OHS Girls Sing in Oxford Girls’ Choir for BBC Recording
On 9th November members of the Oxford Girls' Choir travelled to Venice to sing in Vivaldi’s Church, La Pieta. In the five days they were there they were recording and filming for three different programmes commissioned by the BBC.
