Advanced Strings
This group is for more confident and experienced violin and cello players. We work on developing our ensemble skills and learn to listen really well to each other when playing. We perform in the summer concert.
Art Club

This club is open to students from Years 2-6 and aims to foster enthusiasm for the subject of Art through the practice of exciting processes, involving many different media. Projects typically would include work in clay and mod roc, origami and jewellery making, printing and textiles.
Ballet

“Miss Ford is our ballet teacher here at Oxford High. She does ballet lessons for all the years at our Junior School. I enjoy myself because we do a lot of jumping, ballet and acting all at the same time. We make fabulous miming shows to show the rest of the school.” By Miriame
Brass Group
There are two groups for brass players. The more experienced players meet after school on Wednesdays and love performing in assemblies and in the summer concert. We play arrangements of lots of favourite music. The beginners also have a group that meets occasionally to rehearse for assemblies.
Cello Group
This group meets in the second half of the year, usually in a morning rehearsal. We enjoy playing together with our low sounds as a separate group and work towards the summer concert. We play rounds and tunes in two or three parts.
Chamber Choir
This is an auditioned choir for Years 5 and 6 only. We work extra hard with our singing, trying harder music than in the regular year group choirs and lots of singing in parts. We perform whenever we can and like to enter for festivals and competitions. We have sung together with girls from the Senior School at concerts in the Town Hall and Sheldonian Theatre as well as in our own school.
Chess Club

“In chess we talk about moves and attacks. Afterwards we play chess games or we do puzzle sheets.” By Isabel
Games Club

“I enjoy games and doing different sports. I like matches, especially hockey.” By Innes
German Club

Girls in Year 6 have fun playing games and singing songs in German during activity time. They performed a little play ‘Die Vier Freunde’ (The Four Friends), at the end of the year.
Judo

“I like judo because you learn great new moves and hold-downs. Tony teaches us all the Japanese ways and tells us about discipline.” By Hanako
Junior Strings

This group is for absolute beginners on violin and cello. Through fun music games we establish good basic string technique and learn how to play music together. We perform to teachers and sometimes in assembly.
Maths Games Club

During the autumn term we spent most sessions playing Dominoes, Maths Top Trumps and counting board games. Did you know you can play ‘Time Dominoes’ and ‘Fractions Dominoes’?During the spring term we are learning how to do Sudoku. Some people are playing 16 square games whilst others are playing 36 square games. In the summer term we will play more board games and also games and puzzles that involve shape and patterns.
Modern Dance
“In Modern Dance we do a fun warm-up. We do loads of fun songs like ‘Ghostbusters’ – we have great fun!” By Alice
Morris Dancing

“In Morris Dancing it’s really fun. We get into sets to dance. I like it because we get to learn new things. And we learn about other village dances – their all different. Mr Cooper teaches us – he is very nice.” By Victoria
Ocarina Club

The Ocarina is a small round-shaped flute with a fascinating history and a wonderful sound. In ocarina club the children enjoy making music together from their very first tentative sounds and before long they are able to master well known tunes and rounds, regardless of whether or not they have played a musical instrument.
Senior Orchestra
“Senior Orchestra is for people who are grade 2 or above on any instrument apart from piano. It sounds brilliant when we play altogether and it is very fun to do!” By Poppy
Story Time

“In story time we discover plenty of sometimes funny, thoughtful and sometimes traditional stories and poems. I enjoy it very much and look forward to it all week.” By Charis
Study Club

“In study club we get to finish off any pieces of work that the teacher has put on the board. If we finish what we need to do the teacher either says you can draw a picture or read a story.” By Madelyne
Training Orchestra
This is an orchestra or instrumentalists of approximately Grade One level, although some join us before Grade One on the teacher’s recommendation. We learn how to make music together with all the different instruments blending, and we learn how to follow our own part. We perform in an assembly each term to children and parents.
Wacky Science
“In wacky science we do all sorts of wacky things! The most recent thing we have been doing was making re-usable bags and now we are thinking about conservation which is what we are doing a topic on at the moment.” By Rosalind
