U15 Oxfordshire County Hockey Tournament
On the 2nd of December the U15 Hockey Squad set off to our home ground, Banbury Road North, for our Oxfordshire Hockey Tournament. Our first match was against Headington, so we knew we would have to start strong, which we did. Jenny Dingwall (10G) scored to take us into the lead, which we maintained for most of the match. However Headington fought back and slipped a goal past our goalkeeper to equalise. Next we moved pitches to play Tudor Hall, another competitive game, Bernadette Quah scored from a short corner to win the game. After a short break we played the European school, which we won 3-0. Emily Black, Anna Jimenez-de-Veciana and Georgia Perkins all scored. Straight away we played Bloxham, who were our toughest competition of the day. We fought hard and defended well, but Bloxham were too strong and ended up winning 3-0. After a short break for lunch we were back on the pitch for our last match, against Rye St Antony. In the first half Emily Black scored, putting us in the lead. In the second half, Hollie Fox, Anna Jimenez-de-Veciana and Emily Black all scored in quick succession, resulting in a 4-0 win. Overall we came runners up, just one point behind Bloxham, the well-deserved winners of the day.
U16 South of England Regional Hockey Heats
The U16 hockey team, captained by Caitlin Bailey-Williams (11S) went to the regional hockey heats on Thursday 17th November and, despite a horrifically early start, stepped up to the challenge. Our first game was against St Claire’s and we went out very strong, with Hannah Spiro (11S) scoring quickly. Two more goals made the final score 3-0. The second game was more of a challenge; we faced Sir William Borlase, last year’s National bronze medalists, and although the team defended excellently, with some spectacular saves from GK Emily Caldwell (11S), the final score was 0-1. Our last game against Richmond Grammar School was the best of the tournament. It was a great team effort and four well-worked short corners, meant the final score was 4-1.

GDST Swimming Success
Following their success coming 2nd last year, the OHS Senior Squad managed to do one better and win in the GDST Swimming Rally this year held at Northampton High School. The gala began with the individual events, with Achieng Ajulu-Bushell (13H) winning not only the 100 Individual Medley, but also the 50 Breaststroke, setting a new GDST record in the process. Caitlin Wheatley (10H) also came 2nd in the 50 Butterfly. The event was rounded off with the relays. Both of the OHS teams qualified fastest for the final in the 4×50 Medley (Georgia Cahill (12O), Achieng Ajulu-Bushell (13H), Caitlin Wheatley (10H), Hannah Hawken (10O)) and 4×50 Freestyle (Georgia Cahill (120), Anna Klucnika (12H), Caitlin Wheatley (10H), Hannah Hawken (10O)) following the heats, and the teams finished 1st and 3rd respectively. The final points were tallied and it was with great delight that Oxford High School was announced as winners, receiving the 100 year old trophy for the first time ever. It’s fair to say the coach journey back to Oxford alongside fellow GDST champions the 1st XI was a cheerful one! Senior Swim Squad: Achieng Ajulu-Bushell (13H), Caitlin Wheatley (10H), Hannah Hawken (10O), Anna Klucnika (12H) and Georgia Cahill (12O).

GDST Hockey Success
Congratulations to the 1st XI Hockey Squad captained by Beth Warne (13G) who won the GDST Hockey Rally held at Milton Keynes Hockey Club on Thursday 13th October.
The side lost their first group game against Central Newcastle 0-1 but were then undefeated for the rest of the tournament and played some very impressive hockey.
The squad won on penalty-flicks in the quarter-finals through a fine save by goalkeeperLucy McIvor (13G) and had an excellent 1-0 win in the semi-final against Howells which meant that Oxford High School faced the impressive Newcastle side again in the final which they won convincingly with Tilly Vaughan-Fowler (12H) on hand to score the winning goal.

Year 10
On Friday 7th October, a team of six enthusiastic Year Ten girls travelled to Cokethorpe School in order to participate in the ESAA Cross-Country Cup. Cross-country running is a wonderful sport, which anyone can do. Although it was a very cold morning, we were fortunate enough not to have any rain. When we arrived at Cokethorpe, we were given a map of the route and had sufficient time to walk it through. We then warmed up, before hearing the whistle blow and setting off to run the race. The course distance was 3km and followed a scenic route around the beautiful school grounds. It consisted of one large lap of the school playing fields, followed by a slightly shorter one to finish off. Unlike most cross-country races, the terrain was fairly flat and luckily not too muddy. In fact, the running conditions were fantastic. All members of the team performed very well. Hélène Greenwood (10O) finished 12th, Hannah Hawken (10O) followed in 13th, then Jenny Dingwall (10G) 15th, and Abigail Church (10G) 16th, Ruth Warner (10O) and Philippa Stone (10H) finished 25th and 27th respectively. Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time and should feel very proud of their race. Fingers crossed that the Oxford High School Team will have made it through to the next round of the competition.

Banbury Road North Official Hockey Pitch Opening
An Oxford High School Invitational XI finished off an impressive year of hockey with a 1-0 win over Oxford Hawks U16 XI, who have been unbeaten all year.
The game, played in wind, rain and sunshine was part of an excellent club day at Oxford Hawks that also saw the opening of the impressive Banbury Road North facilities which Oxford High are proud to be partnering. Test
An open game saw both goal-keepers in fine form and at the end of pulsating first half neither side had managed to break the dead-lock. In the second half it was Oxford High who created the best chances early on and were unlucky when a shot from Charlotte Burrows (11H) hit the post and was then cleared by a Hawks defender.
Oxford Hawks started to stamp their own authority on the game and Oxford High were indebted to some great saves, including one remarkable double save, from Sophie McIvor (10O) and some good defending from captain Philippa Quested (13O) and Rachel Blakey (13H) in their last game for the school.
With time running out an impressive run from Charlotte Burrows (11H) should have resulted in a great solo goal but luckily for the school Jenny Dingwall (9S) was on hand to push the ball over the line.
Hawks had the better of the last few minutes but Oxford High stayed firm and claimed an excellent win in one of the best games of hockey played by Oxford High in recent times.
1st XI Cokethorpe Hockey Tournament
On Saturday 19th March the 1st XI attended an invitational hockey tournament at Cokethorpe School.
It was a lovely sunny day and the standard of hockey was extremely high. Ema Stojanovic started the day off extremely well with a goal against Cokethorpe. However, Cokethorpe came back strongly and thanks to a debatable short corner goal went on to win 2-1.
Not disheartened, Oxford High went out and played one of their best games of the season against Akeley Wood, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Two more 0-0 draws followed against St Edward’s and Tudor Hall where Oxford High were unlucky not to convert their strong play into results.
The tournament finished on a high with a convincing 1-0 win (thanks to a goal from Georgia Perkins (9O)) over Tudor Hall U16s. This left Oxford High in a respectable 4th place. Everyone had a great day and it was a really nice way to end what has been a fun and successful season for the Oxford High 1st XI.

U16 VII Regional Netball Tournament
On the 22nd of January, fresh from their mocks, the U16 VII travelled to Southampton to compete in the Regional Netball Tournament.
Having won the Oxfordshire County Netball Tournament, the team were pooled in a very tough group and endeavoured to play some high quality netball. Unfortunately, the opponents were too strong and the squad only managed to come 10th out of 14 schools. Having said that, through blood, sweat and tears, the team played their hardest and looked forward to a better result next time.

Year 7 Cheltenham Ladies Netball Tournament
The Cheltenham Ladies Netball Tournament was a very enjoyable day. Oxford High School won 4 games and lost 1 to Cheltenham College Junior Team.
Unfortunately we did not make it to the semi-finals because we had one less point than another team who therefore made it to the semi-finals. We feel we played very well and that it was very unfortunate to not enter the semi-finals. All of the other teams were very hard to play against and we enjoyed the challenge of playing them. It was a lovely day for a netball tournament, we feel that we played well and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
U15XI GDST Hockey Tournament Success
The U15 Hockey Team went to the GDST Hockey Tournament on Wednesday 2nd February.
Our first group match was against a very strong Ipswich team and we lost 2-1 despite some good saves made by Goal Keeper Emily Caldwell (10S). Our second match was against Sheffield and we won 4-0 with awesome goals from Toria Thomson (10H) and Georgia Perkins (9O).
Against Portsmouth, we played even better and came away with a deserved 6-0 victory, with goals from Betsy Creak (10S) and Hannah Spiro (10S) and some great runs from Jenny Dingwall (9S). Our final group match was against Sutton and we knew we needed to win to get through to the next round. In a tight game we managed to hold on to our one goal lead with some solid defending from Megan Wilds (10G), Sophie McIvor (10O), Elinor Foot (10S), and Jess Oakhill (10O).
The quarter final against Shrewsbury was another close game but we managed to steal a win with a goal by Caitlin Bailey-Williams (10S). Our momentum carried us through the semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Bromley with some great play by Katherine Angwin (10S) and Anna Jimenez de Veciana (9O).
In the finals we met Ipswich again. Determined not to let them beat us for a second time we went out and after twenty minutes of incredible team play we came away with a 2-1 win, goals scored by Player of the Tournament Caitlin Bailey-Williams who also scored 12 goals throughout the tournament.

U13 7-A-Side County Hockey Tournament
In the U13 Mini Hockey Tournament we played five teams and each match was seven minutes long.
First up was Headington A, where there were chances for both teams but the goal keepers made strong saves keeping the score 0-0. Next we were up against St Helen’s and St Katherine’s, where there was a prolonged attack resulting in a goal from Alina Khan (8G) which meant we won 1-0. Then we played Cokethorpe where we had chances but the score stayed 0-0 thanks to good defending. We then played King Alfred’s where the team kept their shape which resulted in goals, making the score 3-0 (Olivia Batho (8S) 2, Beth Nagle (8S)). Finally we played Headington B team and we kept applying pressure so that we won 2-0 (Anna Lingard-Bright (8H), Beth Nagle (8S)). Overall in the tournament we were unbeaten and we didn’t concede any goals. As a result we came 2nd qualifying for the Regional stages of the Tournament.

Oxfordshire Under 13 County and Cokethorpe Netball Tournaments
On a cold, windy March afternoon the Under 13 A and B Netball teams travelled to Headington for the Oxfordshire Under 13 County Netball Tournament.
Everyone played very well, and the A team managed to progress to the Semi-Finals, where they were against St Helen and St Katherine. After a tough match the score was 4-4 so one minute of extra-time was played, but unfortunately for us, St Helen and St Katherine managed to score and so they won.
A few days later, the Netball Teams departed again, this time to Cokethorpe School for the Under 13 Invitational Netball Tournament. Both teams played extremely well, with the A Team winning all of their matches, and the B team managing to beat an A team as well as a B team. This result meant the A team were the champions!

U14 XI Regional Hockey Success
On Thursday 20th January, the U14 Hockey Squad set off in the darkness for Woking Hockey Club, where the South Regional Hockey Heats were being held.
We had six games in total, and we were all feeling confident about the day ahead. Our first game was a 0-0 draw against Kingston Grammar School. Unfortunately Anna Jimenez De Veciana (90) tripped over during our first game, injuring her ankle and was therefore unable to play for the rest of the tournament.
Our next match was against Portsmouth Grammar School. By this time we had woken up, so our play was much better, leaving us with a 1-1 draw as a result. (Georgia Perkins (90). Our third game was against Notting Hill and Ealing High School, a game in which Oxford High dominated throughout, leaving us with a convincing win of 4-0 (Georgia Perkins 2, Emily Black (9H) 1 and Jenny Dingwall (9S) 1).
In our next matches we maintained our good hockey, but came up against some strong teams, leaving us with three losses. Nevertheless it was a great achievement to reach the South Regional Heats and everybody played well on the day.
Georgia Perkins (9O) (Captain)
U14 County Hockey Tournament
On a very cold afternoon, the U14 hockey squad set off to Cokethorpe School with high hopes for this year’s County Hockey Tournament.
Our first match was against St Edward’s, a side we had never met before. We managed to win 1-0 with a goal from captain Georgia Perkins (9O). Next was Headington, one of our toughest games. An early break from the opposition put them in the lead, resulting in a loss of 0-1. We then prepared for our next game against the European School, which went more in our favour with two goals, one from Anna Jimenez De Veciana (9O) and the other from Georgia Perkins (9O).
We were through to the semi-finals! We were set to play Bloxham School, probably our hardest opposition to play. We had a very strong start, resulting in us having the possession for the majority of the game. Our defenders played very well, making lots of good tackles. A goal from Emily Black (9H) put us through to the final, against Tudor Hall.
This was a very competitive final, with everybody on the team putting in 100%. Again we had most of the possession, and despite many runs from Jenny Dingwall (9S), and againAnna Jimenez De Veciana (9O) and Bernadette Quah (9O) we couldn’t quite get the ball in the goal. Then in the last minutes we got a short corner and after a lot of scrapping for the ball Georgia Perkins (9O) finally slotted the ball past the goal keeper.
Georgia Perkins (9O) (Captain)
U16 XI County and Regional Hockey
This year the under 16 hockey team regained their title of County Champions for the fourth time. All members of the team played well and as a tight and driven unit.
Grace McInerny (11S) was a solid and dependable strength in goal allowing the defenders to work the opposition attackers out of play. The midfielders played a fast creative passing game and the forwards picked up passes well to produce constant pressure on the opponents. In light of this we progressed to the final where we crushed St Edward’s 3-0, with an incredible hat-trick from Caitlin Bailey-Williams (10S).
As a result of winning the County Tournament we progressed through to the Regional Heats. In mid-November the team met at OHS in the small hours of darkness to head to Woking Hockey Club. Although during the tournament there were some good individual performances, notably from Jessica Oakhill (10O) against Stowe School, Alice Farmery (11S) against Eastbourne, Georgina Todd (11O) against Portsmouth and some great saves from Grace McInerny (11S), the team failed to find its sparkle and qualify for the finals.
Charlotte Burrows (11H) (Captain)
U16 XI County Hockey Success
Congratulations to the U16 Hockey Squad who won the Oxfordshire U16 County Tournament yesterday.
The girls conceded one goal in whole day and easily saw off Tudor Hall 2-0 in the Semi-Final with goals from Catlin Bailey- Williams and Molly Warne and then beat St. Edwards 3-0 in the final with a hat-trick from Catlin.
The result means that for the second year running the Oxford High School U16 team will go onto represent Oxfordshire in the South East Regional Tournament.
1st XI GDST Hockey Tournament
On Thursday 7th October, Oxford High School 1st XI went to defend their title as GDST champions at Tilsley Park.
Our first game was against Howells, which we won 2-0, goals from Georgia Stevenson (12H) and Caitlin Bailey-Williams (10S). We continued our success in the group, beating Croydon 2-0 with both goals coming from Georgia Perkins (9O). Our last game in the group stages was against Portsmouth: this was a tense game, with flicks being awarded to both sides. With a superb flick and save from Beth Warne (12G) and Rachel Spiro (13O)respectively, we proceeded to the quarter finals where we faced Shrewsbury. After 13 minutes of hard work the score was 0-0, again resulting in a penalty flick competition. Beth Warne (12G) and Caitlin Bailey Williams (10S) both scored, taking us on to the semi finals. Sheffield were strong opponents in the semi final but with our strong tactical skills we came away with a 1-0 win (Georgia Stevenson (12H)). In the final we met Ipswich, and despite an excellent performance by everyone, we lost 1-0. Although we were disappointed not to hold onto our title, we were pleased with how the day had gone and with how much we came together as a team.
Rachel Spiro (13O) (Captain)
1st XI Oxfordshire Hockey Tournament
On Wednesday 13th October the 1st XI Hockey squad travelled to Cokethorpe School for the 1st XI County Hockey Tournament.
In a strong start we convincingly beat Henley College 2-0 with goals from Georgia Stevenson (12H) and Elena Alberts (12H). Our next match was against Bloxham School; having lost to them 4-0 earlier in the season we were able to make specific tactical improvements, and consequently worked hard to hold them in a 0-0 draw. We gave our third opponents (St Edward’s) a run for their money, putting them under pressure and restricting the score to a 2-1 loss, the goal coming from Georgia Stevenson (12H). Our last game was against Bartholomew School. Despite an impressive game we missed out on a place in the semi-finals on goal difference.
Rachel Spiro (13O) (Captain)
