Banbury Road North Official Hockey Pitch Opening

An Oxford High School Invitational XI finished off an impressive year of hockey with a 1-0 win over Oxford Hawks U16 XI, who have been unbeaten all year.

The game, played in wind, rain and sunshine was part of an excellent club day at Oxford Hawks that also saw the opening of the impressive Banbury Road North facilities which Oxford High are proud to be partnering. Test

An open game saw both goal-keepers in fine form and at the end of pulsating first half neither side had managed to break the dead-lock. In the second half it was Oxford High who created the best chances early on and were unlucky when a shot from Charlotte Burrows (11H) hit the post and was then cleared by a Hawks defender.

Oxford Hawks started to stamp their own authority on the game and Oxford High were indebted to some great saves, including one remarkable double save, from Sophie McIvor (10O) and some good defending from captain Philippa Quested (13O) and Rachel Blakey (13H) in their last game for the school.

With time running out an impressive run from Charlotte Burrows (11H) should have resulted in a great solo goal but luckily for the school Jenny Dingwall (9S) was on hand to push the ball over the line.

Hawks had the better of the last few minutes but Oxford High stayed firm and claimed an excellent win in one of the best games of hockey played by Oxford High in recent times.
